Meeting the Health Committee
We’ve started 2026 as we mean to go on, pushing for change. As part of our ongoing #FightForNeuro campaign, we recently met with the Health Committee to address the urgent need for investment in neurology services in Northern Ireland.
MLA Diane Dodds spoke passionately about how engaging with the campaign launch and hearing the lived experiences of those in the neurology community motivated her to call the Neurology debate before Christmas. During the meeting, the Health Committee expressed its support for the #FightForNeuro campaign, acknowledging the chronic under funding of neurology services. This lack of resources continues to place immense strain on patients, families, and healthcare professionals across Northern Ireland.
The Northern Ireland Executive is currently working to agree on its first-ever three-year budget. If successful, this could bring much-needed stability, enable strategic planning, and improve financial control for public services, including healthcare.
At the #FightForNeuro campaign launch and during the Neurology debate, the Minister of Health committed to making neurology a priority in the upcoming budget. Building on this, and with the looming budget in mind, the Health Committee has agreed to write to the Minister of Health to seek clarity on where neurology services stand within his budget priorities.
This is a crucial step in ensuring that neurology services receive the attention and investment they so urgently need.
